Dr Louise Overton is Associate Professor of Social Policy and Director of the Centre on Household Assets and Savings Management (CHASM) at the University of Birmingham.CHASM is a multidisciplinary research centre for financial security,
wellbeing and inclusion.
Louise’s research interests and expertise lie in understanding and addressing the risks, challenges and inequalities associated with later life financial (in)security. She has carried out extensive research on housing wealth as a source of later life finance, intergenerational financial transfers, pensions and long-term savings and care and caring. Her work has made a significant contribution to debates on financial security in
ageing societies, to policy and practice developments in the later life consumer financial services industry in the UK and, more recently, to Carer’s Allowance reform and understanding vulnerability in the welfare benefits system.
She is a member of the Social Policy Association’s Pensions Policy Group, of ILC UK’s Financial Services Expert Panel and a Netspar Fellow. She is also informing The Pensions Commission via membership of DWP’s Pensions Evidence Expert Group.
