David is Professor of Housing and Urban Studies in the School of Geography and Planning at the University of Sheffield. He is a co-investigator on the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CaCHE) and a trustee of the Housing Studies Charitable Trust.

David has been researching and writing about housing for more than 25 years. His career has been spent at the interface of knowledge and action, reflecting his belief that academics should share and apply their knowledge. He has led more than 30 research projects for a range of funders, including Whitehall departments, devolved administrations, local government, housing associations and charities.

He has authored more than 50 academic outputs and more than 70 official reports for government agencies and charities and provided expert advice and guidance to a wide range of local, regional and national agencies and organisations.

In recent years, his research activities have focused, in particular, on the housing options of older people. This includes research for Independent Age generating projections of housing tenure and poverty in older age by 2040, which he will discuss during his presentation.
