Glassdoor has officially ranked Housing 21 in the UK’s top three Best Places to Work in 2024 based exclusively on anonymous, voluntary feedback from current and former employees.

Each year, Glassdoor publishes a list of the 50 Best Places to Work UK based on the reviews provided by employees about their job, work environment and employer over the past year. For 2024, Housing 21, which has its headquarters in Birmingham, scored 4.7 out of 5.

As well as ranking third overall, Housing 21, a not-for-profit provider of housing with care or support for older people of modest means, was the only housing association and not-for-profit organisation to feature in the list, ahead of thousands of other eligible organisations from across the UK.

Housing 21’s Chief Executive Bruce Moore said: “I’m absolutely delighted to see Housing 21 in the top three of Glassdoor’s 50 Best Places to Work list. As 2024 marks our 60th anniversary, I cannot think of a better way to start the celebrations.

“We exist to provide great service and satisfaction for residents and that means recruiting and retaining the best employees. We hope that featuring in the Glassdoor list will create additional opportunities for us to attract new talent, whilst striving to continue to build on the trust and relationship we have with existing colleagues.

“It’s often said that the true representation of a brand is not what you say about yourself, but what others say when you’re not in the room. And it’s great to know in this case, the feedback is overwhelmingly positive.Full credit for this award has to go to every single employee who helps create a positive working environment that makes people not just want to work with us but be proud to do so.”

Housing 21 actively supports and invests in the ongoing development of employees through initiatives such as recognised learning qualifications, paid-for membership of professional bodies and apprenticeships. It also offers its flagship industry-first Extra Care Academy and Housing Academy to support colleagues develop and progress into management roles.

The 50 Best Places to Work UK list is not something which organisations actively enter; the placements are based on Glassdoor’s proprietary algorithm, and consider the quantity, quality and consistency of reviews.

To be considered for the UK company list, an organisation must have received at least 30 ratings across each of Glassdoor’s nine workplace attributes (overall company rating, career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture and values, diversity and inclusion, senior management, work-life balance, recommend to a friend and six-month business outlook).

Christian Sutherland-Wong, Glassdoor Chief Executive Officer, said: “Work-life is rapidly changing, and professionals are turning to Glassdoor to share their experiences about working for some of the most competitive employers in the world.

“The Best Places to Work award is a stark reminder of the power of Glassdoor, from arming professionals with career insights and real-time conversations about all things work and life, to providing employers with feedback to improve.”
