A new development of much-needed homes for older people in Stratford-upon-Avon has opened its doors to welcome prospective residents.

Lavender Meadows, in Bishopton, is an Extra Care scheme providing independent living with optional on-site care for people aged over 55.

It is the first of its kind to be built in the district by Housing 21, a leading not-for-profit provider of Retirement Living and Extra Care for older people of modest means.

A show home has recently opened for viewings at the scheme, a mixture of 75 high quality two-bedroom flats for social rent and shared ownership.

Housing 21 has worked in partnership with Warwickshire County Council and regeneration specialists Vistry Partnerships to develop the new homes, in Corelli Close, off Drayton Avenue.

Lavender Meadows has been designed to provide fully accessible facilities for both residents and visitors, including a café/bistro and hair salon which will also be open to the local community.

There is also a shared lounge and landscaped communal gardens for residents and their guests to enjoy.

Zoe Hopkins, Housing and Care Manager at Lavender Meadows, said: “We are delighted to open the new show home and look forward to meeting prospective residents and their families.

“This scheme has been developed to help meet the pressing need for this sort of housing for local people in the area.

“Lavender Meadows has been designed to cater for older people with varying care needs, providing independent living within a vibrant community. Residents can enjoy living in their own home, while knowing there is 24/7 care and support on-site if and when they need it.”

Councillor Kevin Taylor, Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon, said: “I am honoured to be invited to the new Housing21 Development Lavender Meadow for the official opening ceremony. Housing21 have succeeded in creating a truly amazing development for the over 55s. I’m sure this will be a real asset to Stratford-upon-Avon and provide great homes for many of our residents,”

Councillor Jo Barker, Portfolio Holder for Homes, Health and Wellbeing at Stratford District Council, said: “I was delighted to be invited  to the opening of Lavender Meadow. It’s a beautiful development. The properties are very spacious and modern. I loved the ipad control in the hall – and that people can communicate with each other using it! What a brilliant addition to Stratford. Well done – shame I can’t move in.”

Darren Beale, Managing Director at Vistry Partnerships West Midlands, added: “Lavendar Meadows is a fantastic scheme which, once complete, will bring dozens of much-needed specialist apartments to Stratford-upon-Avon. With countless communal facilities, there is undoubtedly something for everyone, and we wish every happiness to all who choose to live there.”

Lavender Meadows comprises 50 two-bedroom flats for social rent and 25 two-bedroom flats available for shared ownership.
