Covid-19 has emphasised to us all the importance of houses and our home.

In recent months, most (although sadly not all) of us have seen our homes as a sanctuary, a place of safety and the value of home has been emphasised.  In recognition of this, the National Housing Federation are leading a national campaign - Homes at the Heart.  It is calling for a once-in-a-generation investment in social housing. As well as such an investment providing much needed social housing, it will boost the economy, create jobs and improve people’s lives by providing affordable quality accommodation.

Housing 21, as a social housing provider recognises the important role of social housing which provides homes to 3.9 million households in England, 17% of the population. Social housing has a vital role to play in society through its contribution to health and wellbeing, tackling poverty, creating cohesive communities and stimulating the wider economy.

We provide accommodation to approximately 22,000 older people of modest means.  If social housing wasn’t available to them the alternative may be unsuitable accommodation for people as they age, insecure private accommodation or living in a home which is not adequately maintained.

Our housing is particularly valued by our residents for the security it provides, the access to staff on site as well as its design, which enables independent living and the opportunity for couples to remain living together.

Everyone deserves a place to call home and we’re playing our part in recognising that social housing has a significant role to play in that.
