Edward Jenner Court, a new Extra Care Living development on Jenner Boulevard, moved one step closer to completion as the build reached its highest point.

A topping out ceremony was held in November to mark the key milestone for Housing 21’s latest Extra Care scheme, which has been developed in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council. The Housing 21 team were joined by representatives from South Gloucestershire Council and Vistry Partnerships to celebrate the occasion.

Edward Jenner Court is Housing 21’s third Extra Care scheme in South Gloucestershire and will provide much needed accommodation for local people over the age of 55. The development is supported by Homes England and will offer 50 two bedroom apartments for rent and shared ownership. Edward Jenner Court has been designed to promote independent living in a community setting, with a care team on-site 24/7 to deliver planned care packages if needed.

South Gloucestershire Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Adults and Housing Cllr Ben Stokes said: “It was a pleasure to attend the topping out ceremony for this new Extra Care Living development in Lyde Green, which pays homage to one of the pioneers of immunisation who saved many lives through his work and also lived locally.

“Enjoying the privacy of your own apartment whilst knowing that 24 hour on-site care team is available not only provides peace of mind for people living in Extra Care housing, but for their families too. The development’s variety of shared facilities include a café, hair salon and communal lounge which provide opportunities to socialise with others and help reduce loneliness and isolation.”

Residents will benefit from a range of on-site facilities, including a café/bistro and hair salon, which are also accessible to visitors and the local community. There is also a residents’ lounge, activity room, and communal gardens for residents and their guests to enjoy.

Deborah Hope, Head of Development at Housing 21 said: “We are delighted to reach this important milestone in the development of Edward Jenner Court, our third Extra Care scheme in South Gloucestershire. The scheme will provide much needed homes for older people in the area, with on-site, tailored care and support packages available to help residents live independently for as long as possible.”

Craig Currie, Managing Director of Vistry Partnerships West, said: "We're making fantastic progress at Edward Jenner Court and it's great to reach this milestone. Despite the challenges thrown at us all this year by the pandemic, we can look forward to completing another high-quality development with our partner Housing 21."

Edward Jenner Court is set to open in Spring 2021 and the scheme’s show home will be open from January 2021. Housing 21 is currently taking expressions of interest from those interested in buying or renting an apartment. Any enquiries should be directed to the New Home Team on newhome@housing21.org.uk or 0345 608 4021, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.
