The celebrations were in full swing at Montgomery of Alamein Court as residents held an open day to mark the completion of investment work.

Residents Cyril and Rosina cut the ribbon alongside Bruce Moore, Chief Executive at Housing 21, and Local Housing Manager, Sandra Plowright.

The leading provider of Retirement Living and Extra Care for older people invested £1.2m in the Retirement Living scheme which included the construction of an additional four apartments.

Upgrades also included a makeover of the corridors throughout the scheme, remodelling of the main entrance and the communal lounge received a full makeover.

Residents George and Violet have been living at the scheme for almost four years. Violet said: “George was homeless twice before coming here. We were both happy with the scheme before, we even got married at the scheme, but now with the renovation we couldn’t be happier.

“The lounge is brighter, and people are more inclined to come in and socialise. We feel very fortunate with the apartment we have and everything Housing 21 does for us. We couldn’t be happier.”

In addition to the interior upgrades, two new parking spaces were also created, all windows were replaced, and a new mobility scooter store was also built.

Chris Newman, Property Services Manager at Housing 21, said: “It was part of the initiative to identify underutilised spaces in our schemes. Montgomery of Alamein provided an excellent opportunity to create four new flats and more modern facilities and services in the Bracknell Forest area.

“With a brand-new communal lounge and kitchen, we were also able to relocate the on-site salon, library, and prayer room. We have also built four new apartments into the footprint of the building and installed new windows throughout the scheme.”
