Sydney Jones Court residents welcomed a burst of colour this May as volunteers from Manchester City Council and Far East Consortium (FEC) joined forces to refresh the communal gardens.
The team spent the day planting vibrant hanging baskets and re‑stocking the evergreen planters that brighten the entrance of the scheme. Their efforts brought residents together and helped create a welcoming outdoor space just in time for the warmer months.
Gary, Social and Economic Programme Manager at Manchester City Council, said:
“It’s always great to support the local community and give back to North Manchester through social value days.”
Natasha Tate, Social Value Coordinator and Volunteer Manager at FEC, added:
“We have been made to feel so welcome by this vibrant community of residents and have enjoyed planting fresh hanging baskets for everyone to enjoy when the sun eventually comes out!”
Residents were equally delighted. Yvonne from Sydney Jones Court shared her appreciation:
“Thank you to the team for helping us out today, they’ve done wonders. They’ve transformed our front into a beautiful garden space for residents. We really appreciate everything they’ve done. Last year they built the timber planters, and they’ve returned this year to replant everything. It just looks fantastic.”
Sydney Jones Court is a Housing 21 Retirement Living scheme in the heart of Manchester, home to more than 50 residents. The scheme offers a mix of studios, one‑bedroom and two‑bedroom apartments, providing independent living with a strong sense of community.
