Diwali celebrations lit up Seagrave Court in Nottingham as residents and members of the local community came together to celebrate the Festival of Lights.
The vibrant celebrations brought residents together for an afternoon filled with traditional music and dance performances, beautiful henna designs and the chance to dress in colourful saris. The scheme was transformed with bright decorations and the aroma of freshly prepared food, as residents learned about the stories and traditions behind Diwali and its cultural heritage.
Ketki Nandha, Activity Coordinator at Seagrave Court, said, “It was wonderful to see residents smiling, dancing and engaging with members of the local Hindu community.
“I wanted to create an event that would not only celebrate Diwali but also bring people together to learn about a different culture in a fun and meaningful way.
“It was lovely to see so many residents who don’t normally take part in activities getting involved. Events like this remind us how powerful shared experiences can be in building stronger, more connected communities.”
Residents at the Extra Care scheme joined in with the activities and described the occasion as uplifting and full of joy, praising the efforts of Seagrave Court’s Activity Coordinator for organising such a memorable event.
John, a resident at Seagrave Court, said, “The Diwali celebration was radiant and heart-warming – full of colour, music and laughter. It wasn’t just a festive occasion, but a meaningful experience that brought everyone closer together.”
Margret, another resident at the scheme, said, “It was such a successful event. Many residents who don’t usually join in came along, and everyone had a fantastic time. The dancing, traditional outfits and food were wonderful, and the visiting performers really made the afternoon special.”
The event was part of Housing 21’s ongoing commitment to supporting social inclusion and community wellbeing within its Retirement Living and Extra Care schemes across the country.
