The Care Team at Sandstone Court in Telford took on a night outdoors for The Great Tommy Sleep Out, raising over £1,000 and spreading awareness for homeless ex-servicemen and women.

Assistant Care Manager, Shannon, alongside her team, spent the night outdoors in solidarity with those who have served their country and are now facing homelessness.

Shannon said: “We faced a cold night, but it was filled with laughter and gave us valuable time to reflect on the reason behind our sleep out. Thank you so much to everyone who donated to our sleep out! We’ve raised an incredible amount of £1,270 so far.

“We are absolutely over the moon with the total and we know there’s still more to come. We’re truly grateful for every single donation – your support means the world to us.”

The event started at 8pm at the Cock Hotel, local to the Extra Care scheme, where they were able to use the outdoor space to set up for the night. The group stayed until 6am the following morning where many headed back to the scheme to start their shift at work.

They spent the time speaking with locals, raising awareness to encourage donations, and reflecting on what it might be like to be homeless and living on the streets every day.

The fundraising effort supports Royal British Veterans Enterprise (RBVE), a charity that has been helping those in need for over 100 years. RBVE provides crucial support to the armed forces community, individuals living with disabilities, and those who have become unemployed, offering pathways to stability and independence.

The charity was chosen by the employees and residents at the Extra Care scheme owned and operated by Housing 21, as some had already started collecting blankets and food to donate. In total there were 10 Housing 21 employees who took part with some of their family and friends, and even pets joining them along the way.
