An Extra Care team at Housing 21 is lacing up their trainers to take on the May 50K to raise money for MS Society.
The May 50k is a global fitness challenge raising vital funds and awareness for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). The initiative invites people to walk, run, or wheel 50 kilometres throughout May, with every kilometre contributing to life changing research and support services.
Employees at the not-for-profit housing provider are completing their kilometres in all kinds of ways - from early morning jogs and lunchtime walks, to weekend hikes with family and friends. Many taking part have personal connections to MS, while others simply wanted to support an important cause and encourage a culture of wellbeing across the workplace.
Nikki-Leigh Dipper, Regional Extra Care Manager at Housing 21 is leading the initiative within the organisation, and has been personally affected by MS, which makes this cause particularly meaningful to her.
When asked about her reason for taking part, she said: “Being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) last year changed my life overnight. I’ve spent most of my career supporting people living with long-term conditions, including MS but nothing prepares you for hearing those words yourself.
“But I haven’t faced it alone. My family, friends, and colleagues have been there for me every step of the way. And the MS Society has been a lifeline offering practical advice, emotional support, and the reassurance that there is a whole community behind me.
“Many of the residents within my area are also living with MS, and I know there are many more across our organisation. That’s why I’ve decided to take part in ‘The May 50k and encouraging others to do the same.”
The MS Society has already raised over £100,000 through the 2026 May 50K, and the team at the leading provider of Extra Care and Retirement Living hopes their efforts will help boost the total even further.
