Two annual fundraising walks held in memory of Housing 21 colleagues have helped to raise more than £4,000 for charity.

Employees from across the country came together at Charlbury in Oxfordshire and Shipley in West Yorkshire to undertake sponsored walks on behalf of the mental health Charity, Mind.

The walks were introduced following the deaths of Housing 21 employees Tim David and Richard Hall, who were part of the Asset Management Team, and have since become an annual fundraising event for colleagues.

Amelia Counsell, Property Performance Manager for Housing 21 who helped to organise the walks, said: “We held our first memory walk in 2022 and since then they have become an annual event in the Housing 21 calendar with employees from across the country coming together to remember colleagues and raise funds in their memory.

“With many people now working from home, the walks provide a great opportunity for us to get together in person and share stories about Tim and Richard, catch up with old colleagues and meet some new ones. It also provide us with an opportunity to utilise Housing 21’s volunteer days to raise funds for charities which will make a real difference to others in Tim and Richard’s memories.”

Tim and Richard previously worked for Housing 21 collectively for over 30 years respectively, with former colleagues in the Asset Management Team taking responsibility for organising the walks on behalf of the wider organisation.

The first walk set off from Charlbury in Oxfordshire, with approximately 44 people putting on their walking boots to complete the nine-mile Finstock and Charlbury circular walk, or the short 4.5 mile Charlbury circular.

This was followed a week later by a five-mile round trip from the Cavendish Pavilion in Shipley to the Barden Bridge, which was completed by approximately 33 people.

So far more than £4,000 has been raised this year on behalf of the mental health charity, Mind, which was chosen for the great work they do to support mental health. In previous years, the walks have raised funds for prostate and breast cancer charities as well as the British Heart Foundation.
