Fundraising for Macmillan isn’t limited to coffee mornings. At Housing 21’s Retirement Living schemes in Middlesbrough, Local Housing Manager, Kaye Simpson walked 100 miles throughout the month of August to raise funds for the charity.
Over the month, Kaye, Local Housing Manager at Normanby Court in Marton, Middlesbrough, raised £450 by walking just over three miles per day.
She said: “Family, friends, residents and work colleagues have all been very supportive and generous with their donations.”
Kaye took on the challenge in memory of her father, who sadly passed away from cancer and received vital support from Macmillan in his final years. The charity has also provided support to residents at the scheme and their families over the years.
“I lost my dad at the age of 64 to stomach cancer and the Macmillan nurses were fantastic. They used to come out and provide palliative care to my dad and supported the family with all aspects of his life,” she said.
She completed her walk at Normanby Court on 31 August, covering a total of 105 miles, and celebrated with tea and cakes for residents and colleagues to thank everyone for their support.
The scheme, owned and operated by Housing 21, is set to host its annual Macmillan Coffee Morning later this month, inviting residents and colleagues to sell cakes, refreshments, and raffle tickets to boost donations for the charity.
