Celebrations were in full swing at the one-year anniversary of Housing 21’s Extra Care scheme, Michaelmas Court, in Thurston, Bury St Edmunds.

Residents living at the scheme welcomed members of the local community to mark one year since the scheme opened. Guests enjoyed a lively and social atmosphere, with refreshments, opportunities to tour the apartments and communal spaces, and entertainment that brought residents and visitors together to mark the occasion.

Entertainment included a live performance from singer Tom Sanderson, a charming ukulele performance from a local primary school, and contributions from talented residents themselves. One resident took to the decks with a DJ set, while another performed as part of their band, creating a truly community-led celebration enjoyed by all.

The scheme comprises 40 stylish apartments and 14 modern bungalows, available to rent or purchase through shared ownership. Michaelmas Court is delivered by Housing 21, a national leading provider of Retirement Living and Extra Care, in partnership with R G Carter.

The event was attended by representatives from Housing 21, alongside R G Carter and other key partners and stakeholders, all coming together to celebrate the success of the scheme and its growing community.

John Savage, Extra Care Services Manager at Michaelmas Court said:

"We’re proud to see how Michaelmas Court has grown into a vibrant and welcoming community over the past year. It’s been fantastic to see residents settling in so well and making the most of everything on offer. Our open day was a great opportunity to celebrate this milestone and to showcase the scheme to the wider community. We were delighted to welcome so many visitors and share what makes Michaelmas Court such a special place to live.”

Michaelmas Court has been designed to promote independence while offering a safe and supportive environment for residents, supporting older people to live well within the local community.
