Celebrations were in full swing at the opening of Housing 21’s Retirement Living scheme, Pomeroy Court, in Huyton, Knowsley.

Residents living at the scheme welcomed members of the local community to mark the completion of construction and the official opening of the scheme.

The scheme comprises 40 one- and two-bedroom apartments, all of which are available to rent for local older people in Huyton. Pomeroy Court is delivered by Housing 21, a national leading provider of Retirement Living and Extra Care, in partnership with Alderley Group.

The event was attended by representatives from Housing 21, including Chief Operations Officer Kris Peach and Director of Retirement Living, Kate McArdle Broome alongside key partners and stakeholders.

Also in attendance were representatives from Mersey Fire and Rescue Service, Merseyside Police, The King’s Trust and Everton in the Community, who joined the celebration to mark the opening and completion of the scheme.

Vera Deacon, Local Housing Manager at Pomeroy Court said: “We’re proud to bring this much-needed Retirement Living scheme to Huyton, and it’s been wonderful to see how well our residents are settling into their new community. They are already benefiting from the wide range of opportunities and engagement on offer at Pomeroy Court.

“The open day was a fantastic celebration of what Pomeroy Court has to offer, and we were delighted to share it with the local community.”

Dale Hodge, King's Trust Team Leader, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: “Vera has been a great friend to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service for a number of years. She has provided so many opportunities for our young people, that we support, to develop their skills and make a difference in our communities.

“I’m looking forward to continuing working with Vera in her new project for many more years to come. I’m confident that Pomeroy Court will be a huge success.”

Stacey McMahon, Social Action lead at Everton in the Community, said: “Attending the Pomeroy Court open day on behalf of Everton in the Community was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with residents and see the real impact of community work in action. We’ve been proud to work alongside Housing 21 since 2022, and days like this highlight just how important strong partnerships and collaboration are in creating thriving communities.

“It’s clear to see the lasting value of the intergenerational activities delivered in previous months, bringing residents together to build meaningful relationships and shared experiences. By continuing to work together, we can deliver initiatives that create a lasting, positive difference for people of all generations"

Pomeroy Court has been designed to promote independence while offering a safe and supportive environment for residents, supporting older people to live well within the local community.
