Housing 21 welcomed members of the local community to celebrate the launch of its newest Extra Care scheme, Fern Meadows, in Oxfordshire. The open day, held on Wednesday 17th September, gave visitors the opportunity to explore the stylish new apartments and communal facilities designed to support independent living for people over the age of 55.
Fern Meadows is Housing 21’s fifth Extra Care scheme in Oxfordshire and offers 60 one- and two-bedroom apartments which are available for rent or shared ownership. The development has been thoughtfully designed to promote independence while providing access to on-site care and support when needed.
Guests at the open day enjoyed guided tours of the scheme, including the spacious residents’ lounge, activity room, café/bistro, hair salon, and beautifully landscaped communal gardens. Attendees also had a chance to meet the dedicated on-site team, including the Local Housing Manager and members of the Care Team.
Darren Herbet, Deputy Head of Extra Care South at Housing 21, said: “Fern Meadows is a fantastic example of how Extra Care can empower older people to live independently, with the reassurance of support when needed.
“We’re proud to bring this much-needed scheme to Faringdon and to see such enthusiasm from the local community. The open day was a wonderful celebration of what Fern Meadows has to offer, and we look forward to welcoming our new residents.”
The event also marked the completion of construction for the £15.5 million all-electric, low-carbon Extra Care scheme, with Midlands-based Deeley Construction delivering the scheme for Housing 21.
Steve Turner, Construction Director at Deeley Construction, said: “The community day was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the completion of our fourth development in partnership with Housing 21.
“It was brilliant to have the opportunity to speak to local people and hear about how valuable the scheme will be to the community
“We’re proud to have delivered the all-electric, low-carbon scheme which will provide high-quality and sustainable homes for people in Faringdon.”
A spokesperson from Oxfordshire County Council added: Fern Meadows is a brilliant example of how we’re putting the Oxfordshire Way into action, creating modern, flexible, and person-centred living opportunities for individuals who wish to live independently while having access to on-site care and support. This low-carbon Extra Care scheme, delivered in partnership with Housing 21, brings innovative housing to the heart of Faringdon.
