An open day was held to mark the completion of a £3.1 million regeneration project which revitalised Jellicoe Court in Scunthorpe.

The much-loved Retirement Living scheme was originally built in the 1970s, and landlord Housing 21 chose to regenerate the scheme, with the new apartments offering modern, energy-efficient homes for residents.

The project included a full refurbishment of two existing blocks, alongside taking down and rebuilding an entirely new block of 12 apartments.  The design and refurbishment work to the existing blocks has been delivered in a way to seamlessly blend in with the new building aesthetically.

Residents were involved in decisions regarding the colour scheme for the communal lounge which also received a complete makeover including new furniture and a fresh coat of paint.

Joan is a resident at Jellicoe Court, she said: "I can't believe the day is here that we officially open the new apartments at our scheme. We can't wait to welcome new residents and be able to host coffee mornings and events in our new communal space.

"We helped choose some parts of the new communal space; we chose purple as it is a calming colour and the flooring so that it is accessible for residents in wheelchairs or scooters."

The residents were fully engaged on design decisions throughout the process, ensuring their input helped shape the communal and external areas. This approach ensured the scheme met the needs of its residents and fostered a deep sense of ownership and pride within the community.

The communal areas also received a full interior design led makeover. The resident apartments to the existing block were fully upgraded with new bathrooms, kitchens, windows, roof and new external look which included brick slips and composite cladding.  The success of the Jellicoe Court regeneration project was driven by effective collaboration among a wide range of stakeholders, including residents, contractors, designers, and Housing 21’s dedicated project team. This meaningful partnership and strong collaboration created outstanding outcomes.

Ashley Norwood, Head of Property Investment at Housing 21, said: "Jellicoe Court is a shining example of what resident-focused regeneration projects can achieve.  This project goes beyond the bricks and mortar and is about creating an environment and community where our residents can thrive.

“This part refurbishment and part new build project has been successful in bringing together both new and existing buildings sympathetically to create modern, high-quality facilities for our residents.”
