Residents at Hargreaves Court in Preston have come together in the spirit of generosity, raising an impressive £500 for two deserving charities.
The chosen charities were Dig In, which provides vital support for military veterans, and the RNLI Fleetwood, part of the national lifesaving charity that protects and rescues those at sea.
Dee, a resident at the scheme said: “We had a Christmas fair to raise money for charities, we asked all the residents to put their favourite charity on a list.
“We put all the names in a bag and asked our lovely domestic worker to pick two names out for us. The rest of the names that went in the hat will go in next time we have another fair.”
Employees and residents at the Retirement Living scheme raised just over £400 through stalls, games, and resident contributions. To maximise the impact, the residents’ committee topped up the total to £500, allowing both charities to receive equal shares.
Ken Harcombe, Visits Officer at RNLI Fleetwood Lifeboat Station said: “We were absolutely amazed at the amount that was donated by the residents at Hargreaves Court. When they came to see us, they were fantastic and full of life. It was lovely to meet the residents.
“We rely on the generosity of the public and could not operate without them. The donation will help to continue our work to help Save Lives at Sea”
Hargreaves Court residents expressed pride in their resident-led approach and the commitment of the wider community to helping others.
