Residents at Peacock Close in Essex have proudly raised £400 for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), thanks to the generosity and community spirit shown at resident Joan’s recent birthday celebration.

Instead of receiving gifts for her 80th birthday, Joan asked family, friends and fellow residents to make a donation to GOSH,  a charity close to her heart. Joan’s grandchild received care from the hospital for ten years, beginning at the age of five, and she has never forgotten the support her family received during that difficult time.

Joan has made charitable giving a tradition throughout her life, choosing to donate on her 60th, 70th and now her 80th birthday. She also puts aside a little of her savings each month to support causes that matter to her.

“I want to give back to Great Ormond Street Hospital for the remarkable work they put in to saving children’s lives,” Joan said.

Residents and colleagues describe Joan as a warm, caring and uplifting presence within the scheme, always smiling, and always looking out for others. Since joining Housing 21, Local Housing Manager Faisal said "Joan has been a constant source of kindness and support, helping me to settle into my role and feel part of the community."

Great Ormond Street Hospital continues to provide life‑changing care for children with serious health conditions, and donations like this help ensure families receive the support they need. The residents of Peacock Close are incredibly proud of what they have achieved together, and Joan’s compassion has inspired many.
