The Pride celebrations are in full swing at Crandon Court in Manchester.
Residents at Housing 21’s Retirement Living scheme are preparing to join the city’s vibrant Pride celebrations in August.
There is also a pride party planned at the scheme in July and activities taking place throughout Pride Month, excitement is building among residents—many of whom will be experiencing Pride celebrations for the first time.
“We are really looking forward to the Pride party,” said residents Christine and Irene. “We haven’t been to one before and it’s a nice change.”
Veronica, who moved in a year ago to be closer to her son and daughter, is helping with the Pride arrangements. “I love the company here—everyone is friendly,” she said.
“Times have changed so much, and now people are open and talking about Pride. It’s an inclusive community here.”
Sue, daughter of a Crandon Court resident, shared her excitement about the celebrations: “For Pride Month we’re decorating the scheme with lots of flags to make it bright and colourful.
“For me, Pride is a celebration of all sexualities, and everyone should be treated equally.”
A regular attendee of Manchester Pride, Sue is especially looking forward to the main event this August. “I go to Manchester Pride every year. I love watching the parade. I’m really looking forward to this year’s event.”
She added: “My LGBT icon is Freddie Mercury. I always loved his music—his sexuality didn’t matter to me.”
With rainbow decorations, community support, and a spirit of celebration, Crandon Court is proving that Pride is for everyone.
Crandon Court enjoys a convenient location in the Greater Manchester suburb of Pendlebury, close to a range of local shops and facilities. The scheme has a range of on-site facilities including a residents’ lounge and communal laundry.
