A group of dedicated residents at a Retirement Living scheme in Dover has helped raise funds for a local homeless charity, Porchlight.

Residents at Charles Lister Court, a scheme owned and operated by Housing 21, took it upon themselves to host a raffle and table sale with items that were donated from the group and the Local Housing Manager.

Beverley Loomer, Local Housing Manager at the scheme said: “It felt like the perfect opportunity to give back to a truly worthwhile cause. This issue has also personally affected one of the residents, making the fundraising effort even more meaningful.”

Porchlight was chosen by everyone at the scheme due to resident’s and employee’s connections with their work and Housing 21 working directly with the charity to rehome someone at a neighbouring scheme.

Emma Giles, a representative from Porchlight, said: “Thank you so much for the fundraising you have done for Porchlight and raising an incredible £330!

“Your generosity will provide vital help for people in crisis for whom homelessness seems inevitable this winter - your fundraising will make a life changing difference.”

In short space of time £330 has been raised for Porchlight, a charity based across Kent, which supports people sleeping on the streets, helping them move into a safe home and providing the ongoing support they need to recover from the trauma of homelessness.

Charles Lister Court, located in Dover, has one-bedroom properties for up to two people, and single person studio apartments. The Retirement Living scheme benefits from a pleasant communal lounge, laundry room and guest room.
