Broadway Gardens in Wolverhampton was buzzing with community spirit at the weekend as residents gathered for a lively Summer Fête.

Organised in partnership with Prestbury Medical Practice, the fete held at Housing 21’s Extra Care scheme was a fantastic display of local collaboration and celebration.

The event helped raise money for a community defibrillator at the medical centre, for local Brownies, and for the Wolverhampton Veteran’s Association. It was attended by local MP Sureena Brackenridge who spent time speaking with the residents.

Sonia Felton, Housing Manager at Broadway Gardens said, “The day was a real celebration of togetherness – bringing residents, families and neighbours together with wonderful music, stalls and laughter. It’s events like this that make Broadway Gardens such a vibrant and supportive place to live. We were also delighted to welcome our local MP, Sureena Brackenridge, to the Summer Fête and we’re very grateful for the time she spent speaking with our residents. Her visit meant a great deal to everyone here, as it shows how valued our community is.”

Entertainment on the day was led by a performance from The Marching Band of St. Gregory’s, a local children’s marching band that brought music and colour to the afternoon. There was a variety of stalls offering everything from crafts and local produce to games and refreshments
MP Sureena Brackenridge said, “You can tell a lot about a place when you walk in, and there is a lovely feeling of community here.”

Following the success of the partnership with Prestbury Medical Practice for the Summer fete, Broadway Gardens will be joining forces again, along with the Wolverhampton Veterans Association, to organise a special Christmas Fete later in the year.

Kerry Bourne-Genner, Lifestyle Coach at Broadway Gardens, said: “What a fantastic day! Our summer fete brought together local people working in partnership and celebrating community.

“Our residents and volunteers worked hard to put on a great event, and we are very grateful to The Marching Band of St Gregorys for filling the event with fun and music!

“We’re looking forward to our next community event later in the year.”
