A topping-out ceremony was held to mark a key milestone in the development of a new Retirement Living scheme in Banbury.
The event was attended by representatives from Housing 21, a leading national provider of Extra Care and Retirement Living housing, alongside representatives from Churchill Living Partnerships, TSA Riley and Coreus. The development is being delivered with grant funding from Homes England.
Jacob Lodge will have 54 one-bedroom and 24 two-bedroom apartments, thoughtfully designed to offer fully accessible facilities for both residents and visitors, including an on‑site guest suite and housing manager.
Additional amenities feature a spacious residents’ lounge – an ideal place to welcome family and friends. The scheme will be managed by Housing 21 and will offer a pet-friendly environment for residents.
Housing 21 and Churchill Living Partnerships will deliver over 300 homes for older people across England. The collaboration will provide two new Retirement Living schemes for social rent at Jacob Lodge in Banbury and Droves Lodge in Shaftesbury. Additional developments are located in Andover, Felixstowe and Gravesend.
Ash Round, Delivery Development Manager – Midlands & South, said: "Housing 21 are pleased to be working alongside Churchill Living to construct our new 78-apartment retirement living scheme here in Banbury. This site is going to provide much needed affordable retirement living properties that are both high-quality and accessible. We very much look forward to the scheme opening in Autumn 2027 and welcoming residents to their new homes”.
Cressida Bateman-Thomas, Operations Manager, said: This is an exciting milestone for Banbury and a significant step forward in providing further much-needed retirement living accommodation. Jacobs Lodge will offer modern, comfortable homes designed specifically for older people, helping them remain independent while staying connected to their local community.
Martin Young, Managing Director of Churchill Living Partnerships, said: “Today marks an important step in our partnership with Housing 21, delivering the first project through our newly formed Partnerships business in response to the growing demand for specialist affordable retirement accommodation in the UK. We look forward to working with Housing 21 and other providers to deliver similar projects that will help meet the needs of our ageing population.”
