When you are looking for the next move for your loved ones, it is worth considering that Housing 21 has two distinct service offers: Extra Care and Retirement Living.

This page will help explain a little more about each of those services, provide you with some added features and support from us, and how we can help when planning for the future beyond Housing 21.

Extra Care

Any care and support received will be built around your loved ones and delivered in their own home. Our highly trained employees are committed to providing a professional service.

There is a care team on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide care, whether it is planned or in an emergency.

Retirement Living

A key element of our Retirement Living service is the on-site Local Housing Manager who is there to ensure the scheme runs smoothly day to day.

They are on hand to help organise any necessary repair work with tradespeople and to also create and foster communities by organising social events and activities, provide a listening ear, and signpost to services.

We know how important it is to feel safe at home which is why all of our properties have a 24-hour emergency call system, managed by Appello.

In Retirement Living, the system is linked to the on-call Appello Team whilst in Extra Care, you will be connected straight to the on-site Care Team in the first instance or Appello thereafter.

The call systems in our newer schemes have a built-in video door entry system for reassurance so you can see and hear visitors before opening your front door.

We are proud to be a dementia-friendly organisation; we want people living with dementia to feel active, engaged and supported within their communities. We work hard to ensure our schemes incorporate dementia-friendly designs, provide dementia-awareness training to employees and encourage all colleagues and stakeholders to become Dementia Friends through the Alzheimer's Society.

At Housing 21, we want everyone to feel welcome and like they belong, whether they are a resident, employee, visitor or stakeholder. We believe that everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect and ask our residents and colleagues to sign up to our Respect and Inclusion Charter.

We know you will be keen to show off your home to friends and family so they are welcome to visit at any time – you don’t need to ask permission. If you need some extra space or fancy a change of scenery, you can use your scheme’s communal facilities for a catch up with visitors.

Most of our Extra Care schemes have a guest room available to hire for a small charge so you can invite visitors to stay. Alternatively, if you are visiting friends or family at another scheme you may want to stay over – or perhaps you may be considering an affordable option
for a holiday or trip to another part of the country. Any overnight stays, either at your own or another scheme, need to be booked in advance; your manager will be able to help with this.

A little peace of mind when it's time to move on

When the time comes for you to sell your Housing 21 property, we may be able to implement our discretionary buy back scheme to purchase the home from you.

Our Home Ownership Team will be able to explain more about how this works.
