Housing 21 has this week become one of a small number of housing providers to receive Investors in People’s Platinum award, the most prestigious people management accreditation.

Investors in People’s ambition is to make work betterto achieve its Platinum status, Housing 21 needed to demonstrate the effectiveness of its efforts to invest in and develop its people. It also had to show how it actively engages with team members, provide tangible positive outcomes, and outline its plans for continuous improvement.

Housing 21, a leading not for profit provider of Retirement Living and Extra Care for people of modest means, was able to clearly demonstrate its commitment to its people during the Covid-19 pandemic, making its Platinum accreditation even more remarkable.

Indeed, IiP’s practitioners highlighted the organisation’s efforts to cultivate psychological safety within its teams, meaning that, even during a global crisis, individuals felt able to speak up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes.

IiP practitioner Gwen Powell, who spent her last day on-site with Housing 21 on 21 June 2021, said: “Your purpose is clear and compelling and inspires and motivates people.”

“What is unique about your approach is the overt challenge and open opinions that people have, and express. You work on this constantly to make sure everyone has a voice.

When out in Housing 21’s Retirement Living and Extra Care properties, Gwen noted: “I heard so much about how you support, not only yourselves, your teams and your people, but your residents and tenants, as well extend your efforts of support to the community.”

Bruce Moore, chief executive of Housing 21, said: “This is huge achievement for everyone at Housing 21. Anyone who has been involved in working towards an Investors in People accreditation understands just how high the organisation’s people management standards are, so for us to be awarded Platinum is testament to the truly outstanding work our teams are doing.

“IiP is always looking to see evidence of continuous improvements, and Housing 21 is fully committed to building on this massive success to become an even better place to work.”
